Designing your own website is like working with your worst client. Indecision, mind changing, brief changing, procrastinating, delaying, more delaying.
And then there is the design process!
Just getting it started is hard, working through it can be painful. Ask Sara Wilde, she sat through hours upon hours of decision making while we fought it out over super close up or straight on shots. More is less or less is more or it’s ok, more or less!
What to write – how much, how to spell – grammar is not my friend.
And then there’s the work. What to put in. I still love a lot of old projects. Some of them are still shown because they are gems, no matter how old they are.
I could liken the process to having a baby, but since I have no experience, I will say it’s like any design job.
You have a vision, you go through the process. It goes off to the printer, launched or whatever and then you are happy and sad.
Happy it’s done, sad because you wish you had done certain things differently, if the technology was better or you were better with technology. Or if only you had thought about “that” eight months ago!
And then it becomes part of you. You forget about the pain and (oh wait, am I talking about babies again?) and you go on to do what you do best – websites included.
